Due to the coronavirus health crisis, Central Queens Skilled Rehabilitation Center in Queens, NY, is following guidelines set by the Department of Health and the CDC on May 7, 2020.

Nursing facility residents are highly vulnerable to the effects of COVID-19. Our facility has implemented the necessary safety measures to protect our patients and reduce the virus’ spread.

    COVID-19 Safety Measures

    All visitation to Central Queens Skilled Rehabilitation Center is restricted, except for necessary medical personnel. To maintain our resident’s contact with family and friends, we’ve created alternative communication methods, including smartphone accessibility.

    To assist residents with related technological issues, we’ve hired extra staff to perform daily rounds. We also update family members on the status of our facility and their loved ones.

    Additional personnel has been hired to deal with staff shortages from illnesses or absenteeism. These new staff members include medical and public health professionals. Trained personnel has also been added to administer medication and help residents with daily tasks.

    Nursing and medical students are available for staff assistance. Volunteers offer emotional support to residents separated from loved ones and who have had their regular schedules and activities altered.

    At Central Queens Skilled Rehabilitation Center, we regularly update our residents on new COVID-19 rules and regulations. Those with cognitive impairments are given special consideration, such as simple talking points and limited schedule alterations. The goal is to maintain their mental health and minimize stress while watching for behavioral changes.

    To reduce the spread of COVID-19, we’ve suspended communal dining, group activities, and recreational programs. Recreational materials are supplied to residents, as is access to designated channels in their rooms for movies, games, and facility announcements.

    Our facility uses hospital-grade disinfectants to clean and sanitize according to CDC guidelines. Staff has full access to proper cleaning supplies and additional staff is on hand to assist with around-the-clock cleaning.

    Personal protective equipment is also provided to staff, including facemasks, gloves, gowns, and eye protection. A structured training on how to choose, wear, and remove such equipment is provided as well. Staff must demonstrate competence in this area to return to work.

    At our facility, we screen all those who enter the facility by checking temperatures and providing masks. We’ve also installed extra handwashing stations, sanitizer stations, and safety signs about proper usage and COVID-19 symptoms. Central Queens Skilled Rehabilitation Center also monitors residents and staff for fever or respiratory symptoms. Staff showing symptoms are not to report to work.

    The current pandemic is a frightening time, which is why Central Queens Skilled Rehabilitation Center, in Queens, NY, follows strict CDC guidelines. We do this to ensure the safety of our residents and staff.
